Changemakers beyond Ethereum

Pagoda started in April 2024 as a gathering for Asian community leaders and practitioners in the Ethereum ecosystem. Since then, we’ve developed ourselves into an alliance — one that unites Asian communities and mediates between Asian and global players. We found ourselves adding true values to the ecosystem in the following aspects:

1. Internally fertilize Asian communities, inspire actions, and foster connectivity
2. Externally communicate Asian values, build solid relationships between Asia and global

At the five-month mark of our establishment, we look back at the value and vision discussion at the inaugural gathering, which guided us towards the dreamy Asia we envisioned together.

Challenges identified in the gathering

Asia has been affected deeply by ‘dark flows’ of nationalism, war, colonialism, environmental degradation, etc. The rise of digital technologies and the Internet over the past few decades, while creating new ways of living and improved opportunities for people, has also exacerbated and further propagated some of these dark flows. Internet shutdowns, invasive censorship and surveillance regimes, dis/misinformation campaigns, online scams, violation of privacy, etc are several examples of problems that plague countries around the region. In addition to this, the impact of social media and the hyper-online culture on youth in the region is yet to be fully understood. (Reference: Social Layer discussion in Pagoda gathering )

How we planned to approach it

In the spirit of unity and with a profound respect for the interconnected web of life that binds us all, we, the people of Pagoda from Asia, hereby declare our commitment to forging a society that reflects the highest ideals of balance, equity, and mutual respect. Drawing upon the rich tapestry of Asian traditions, wisdom, and the innovative potential of decentralization, we pledge to embody the principles that sustain and enrich our lives and the world around us.
